SR Community Member Spotlight: Senai Cimatec

As part of an on-going series, we are featuring SPRINT Robotics member companies on SR Community. This month: Senai Cimatec, from Brazil, is a Manufacturing and Technology-Integrated campus involved in the Research, Development, and Innovation industry. Their network mostly comprises of collaborators that include well-known universities and organizations worldwide.

Tell us about your company in 1 to 2 sentences.

SENAI CIMATEC is one of the main RD&I project developers in the country, in cooperation with EMBRAPII. The CIMATEC innovation ecosystem takes place to, and through technological solutions, contribute to a better and more sustainable future.

Where is your company based and how many employees does your company have?

We are in Salvador (4 buildings, 35 thousand m², 900 collaborators), Lauro de Freitas and in the Camaçari Industrial Complex, with SENAI CIMATEC Park, a technological and industrial complex that combines a Science Park, a Technological Park and a Business Park, integrated in a 4 million m² Eco Park.

What have you appreciated most about being a member of the SPRINT Robotics Collaborative?

Networking with partners, exposure of technological innovations and gaining visibility to potential new customers.

How would you describe your company culture in just 3 words?

Technological, sustainable and innovative.

What makes your company stand out?

The continuous search for improvements in high-quality technological development that cause positive impacts on the environment and that seek social evolution are some of the drivers that generate visibility and prominence for SENAI CIMATEC, in addition to the wide range of areas under development and already active in the market.

Which developments in I&M robotics are you most excited about?

The development of projects such as: autonomous underwater, aerial and terrestrial vehicles, 3D scanning, sensing technologies for inspection, cleaning and autonomous handling of deep-water structures.

What is the greatest challenge that your company has faced in I&M robotics?

Development of robotics for applications in the pre-salt region, at 3000m depth. Deepwater projects proved to be quite challenging in terms of planning representative tests for the technological maturity process, and there is currently a major limitation in the availability of equipment, devices and sensors for these depths.

Has your company won any awards or are there any other achievements you'd like to share?

1st Place – Award Subsea Forum (2016, FlatFish), Best Publication - Conference Genetic and Evolutionary Algorithm (2016, FlatFish), 2nd Place- ANP Innovation Award (2017, FlatFish), Right to Develop and Produce NASA’s ventilators in Brazil during the pandemic.

Look into the future. What developments do you see happening in your company?

SENAI CIMATEC is the future. An organization that works in several areas, from health to advanced robotics, this just shows how broad our capacity is to develop projects, overcoming complex challenges and aiming at the constant advancement of technologies to improve the environment and population.
